Flexcut KN100 Carving Knife Set Review

If you are a woodcarver, then you are probably always on the lookout for knives that can help you carve a piece of your passion out. This carving knife set comes with four knives to help you carve. They all have different blades meaning that they can perform different functions.

Having this set means that you can carve what you need with the blade you need. In this set, you will find the KN12 cutting knife, the KN13 detail knife, the KN18 pelican knife, and the KN19 mini pelican knife. All the knives have a blade that is in place and very sharp. The handles on each of these are ergonomically designed, which makes working easier on your hands. The set is 1.25 inches long, 9.75 inches wide, 8.75 inches high, and weighing 10.2ounces.

Just looking at these, you will see the beautifully finished handles. The design is ergonomic and smooth. The red Flexcut logo is bang on the front of the handles. The handles are solid ash, and the blades are made of black carbon steel.

One look at these knives, and you are sure to fall in love. The brown color easily fits in as a carving tool, but then finishing the handle knocks it out of the park. These are some good-looking knives. Every blade is honed and skillfully fixed in place. It is different from the other pocket knives that flex cut makes that have blades that fold back in.

The sleek design also feels great in your hands, and this is important if you will be working long hours carving out your various designs and making sure that you get the fine detailing you need.

The knives come in a tool roll pouch, which will keep both you and your knives safe. Weather elements can be bad for your knives and even alter the way they look. Thus, it is necessary to keep them protected, and this tool roll will do just that.

Performance Review

Flex cut has put together some of the most popular knives in its collection. You no longer need to buy them individually and try to bundle them up to take them with you when you have a “carving” situation.

These knives are great for carving small and fine items like flutes or making spoons, or etching details on various surfaces. It would be best if you had specific tools. The cutting knife serves a different purpose, as does the detail knife.

The KN12 is a general-purpose cutting knife and is a great buy for beginners. It is also why it is known as the cutting knife. This knife is rounded and has a 1 1/4″ blade bevel.

The second blade in this set is known as the pelican knife. Its more technical name is the KN18 blade and this one does a great job of slicing the wood. Its blade has a pointed edge that is narrowed so that you get a tight turning radius.

It does a great job when you are looking to carve hollow items. Its blade bevel length is 1-5/8″. It is 1.25 inches long, 3.5 inches wide,  9 inches high, and weighs 2 Ounces.

The third knife, the KN13, is a detail knife that is great for making fine lines and details, as the name suggests. It has a straight blade with a 1 1/2″ blade bevel length. It is 1.25 inches long,  3.5 inches wide, 9 inches high, and weighs 1.9 Ounces.

The fourth knife is the KN19, also known as the pelican knife. It has a curved blade that is also very thin. It allows you to slice very thinly and gives you the lowest resistance when you need to be doing the fine cutting.

You also get a very tight turning radius with the pelican knife. To enable you to hold the knife comfortably in multiple positions, the handle has to allow this, and it does. It has multiple controls, and these allow you to handle the knife safely and also for you to get the most out of it.

With four different blades in the set, it is basically a one-stop shop for your carving needs. Each of the blades is precision machined, very sharp and accurate, and gets you great results. This is if you know what you are doing with the tools and what results they are meant to give you.

Retailers make sure not to sell the blades to people under the age of 18. This is because safety precautions need to be followed. The blades are sharp and ready to use right out of the packet. When you are working using them, follow the directions and instructions, especially if you are a beginner.

Make use of thumb guards and gloves. These will keep your hands safe from splinters or even cutting yourself as you work. When working with other knives, you should make sure that you are focused on your work and always remember how sharp the blades are. You need to have a steady hand and keep the blade moving smoothly.

Who is this product ideal for?

The great thing about getting a set of knives like this one is that you get knives for users with different skill levels. The KN12, for example, is great for beginners. Because this is a set of knives, you will find that people with different skill levels can use knives.

Our Verdict

Buying one carving knife is one thing, but a set of knives will be more efficient for your woodcarving. Whether you are a hobbyist or a beginner, or a professional, a good carving knife will make your work much easier.

Each blade is professionally made and very strong. They will help you easily carve through different types of wood, and we recommend this set. It will be all that you need for projects needing the finer details. Always remember to follow the safety instructions. Happy shopping! See the Flexcut KN300 Whittler’s Kit Review.
